Twelve reasons to make a will
- To ensure that your assets are distributed in accordance with your wishes
- To choose who your executor(s) will be, to handle your estate
- To prevent legal problems arising after your death
- To choose who will be responsible for the care of your children
- To provide for your children financially
- To provide for your partner if you are not married or in a civil partnership
- To ensure that family heirlooms remain within the family
- To help your favourite cause, through a tax-free donation to charity
- To leave gifts to friends and family
- To set out any wishes regarding your funeral
- To protect any business interests
- To minimise inheritance tax payable
Without a valid will, your possessions will be distributed in accordance with strict rules laid down by Parliament and therefore not as you may wish.
