Stephen is a dispute resolution lawyer with a strong commercial sense and client service focus. His work is based upon the proactive and commercial resolution of disputes by litigation (predominantly in the High Court), Arbitrations (both institutional and ad-hoc) including ICC Arbitrations and increasingly the use of alternative dispute resolution. Stephen has conducted numerous mediations.
His particular expertise covers all aspects of commercial dispute resolution including complex contractual disputes, issues arising out of corporate transactions (including warranty claims and completion account disputes) shareholder litigation (including unfair prejudice actions) and negligence actions including actions against professionals. Stephen’s work regularly involves applications for injunctive relief, often on an urgent and without notice basis.
Stephen also has considerable experience of minerals and subsidence disputes.
Stephen acts for clients ranging from small owner-managed businesses, high net worth individuals, private limited companies, household-name PLC’s and multi-nationals over a wide range of sectors including technology, manufacturing, financial and utilities.
Stephen has been ranked by Chambers and Partners for a number of years and he is recognised as “a focused lawyer" who “earns client confidence with his ability to lead a case and turn work around quickly."

- Acting for a FTSE 250 company in long running Mercantile Court proceedings involving complex contractual issues.
- Obtaining a without notice injunction on behalf of a UK supermarket chain to prevent goods being shipped to China and in proceedings for damages.
- Successfully defending in it’s entirety a £1.2m claim against a UK supermarket chain
- Advising a US pharmaceutical distributor in an international ICC arbitration against a multinational pharmaceutical manufacturer. Total value in dispute $48m
- Advising minority shareholders in relation to unfair prejudice proceedings.
- Advising vendor shareholders in a completion account dispute involving issues of rectification and claims against previous professional advisors.
- Advising a computer software company in a dispute regarding the compatibility of bespoke computer software.
