DIY Divorce Solicitors

18/05/2018

DIY divorce is a much-talked about topic. A quick internet search will throw up any number of websites, blogs and articles giving tips on how to get a ‘quickie divorce’.

Driving down the cost of divorce and avoiding acrimonious and expensive court proceedings is, quite rightly, a priority for many couples. While it is relatively cheap to file your own divorce papers, making sure you get the outcome you want is likely to take a little more work.

If you are choosing a DIY divorce, there are a couple of things to be aware of; firstly some websites offer ‘quickie divorces’ for less than £100. What the adverts may not tell you is that you will still need to pay court fees.

Secondly, even if you have agreed to make no financial claims against each other, if matters are not formalised correctly within a financial consent order and approved by the court then the financial ties between you are not severed upon divorce.

This means that there is nothing to stop either of you from applying to the court for financial provision from the other later on and there is no limitation period (save for in certain circumstances) for financial claims.

Using a family solicitor can give you peace of mind during a stressful and emotional divorce. There is no doubt that you are more likely to secure a positive outcome if you have someone acting for you who is an expert in the complexities of divorce, especially in terms of finances and children.

Beswicks Legal is able to guide you through the divorce process from start to finish ensuring your position is safeguarded in respect of potential future claims. We offer a transparent pricing structure with fixed fees for initial consultations and uncontested divorces.
