Increasing Land Registry fees

27/01/2022

Land Registry fees will increase from Monday 31 January for the first time since 2009.

The increase affects applications for first registration and for the registration of transfers, leases and mortgages of property.

In the majority of cases, the fee for making an application electronically will increase by 11% and for postal applications by 21%.

In explaining the increase, HM Land Registry said it was necessary to allow it ‘to move forward with plans to deliver what customers need – more consistency and speed in service delivery by investing in both operational capacity and accelerating the digitalisation and automation of services.’

A full list of the new Land Registry fees can be found on the gov.uk website. The new fee scales will apply to applications submitted on or after Monday 31 January or, where an application is cancelled or rejected, to resubmissions made on or after 31 January.
