Do domestic violence cases go to court? Family Law
Domestic violence cases can go to court. Victims can report the abuse to the police, who may investigate and bring criminal charges against the abuser. Depending on the case, it may be heard in either the magistrates’ court or the crown court. Victims can also seek civil remedies, such as domestic violence injunctions, through the family courts. Both criminal and civil courts aim to protect victims and hold perpetrators accountable.
