Is it illegal to use your mobile phone as a sat nav? Motoring Offences
If you use your phone as a sat nav, it must be fixed to your windscreen or dashboard and easily visible.
Holding it in your hand or placing it on the passenger seat or on your lap is illegal and can attract six points on your licence and a £200 fine. If you have had your licence for less than two years, you could also face a driving ban.
