Will my partner inherit my house when I die? Cohabitation Agreements

Cohabiting couples will not automatically inherit their partner’s share of the house on death unless they own the property as joint tenants. If your home is owned as tenants in common or if the property is solely in your partner’s name, it will pass to whoever is named in their will or, in the absence of a will, according to the rules of intestacy. Cohabiting couples are strongly advised to make wills to clarify their wishes.
