The Stamp Duty Land Tax holiday has been extended to 30 June 2021, which means that no stamp duty is payable on the first £500,000 of a property purchase and while the number of new clients who can benefit from this is now dwindling, the good news is that from 1 July to 30 September the threshold will be £250,000, before returning to the pre-pandemic threshold of £125,000 from 1 October.
The aim of the SDLT relief was to boost the housing market through the Covid pandemic, encouraging people to continue with their plans to move and, judging by the number of transactions currently taking place, it certainly seems to have achieved that!
