New TV licence rules have come into effect today. The changes mean that all BBC iPlayer users must now own a TV licence – regardless of whether or not they watch programmes live.
Before this was introduced, only viewers who were watching shows live required a licence and it was legal to watch content after broadcast using the catch-up service without the need to purchase a TV licence.
Now, if you do not hold a current TV licence, all iPlayer users will be expected to pay the annual £145.50 licence fee.
It is thought that this change in the rules will particularly affect younger people viewing content on tablets and smartphones more than via the traditional television set.
Watch out – don’t get prosecuted!!!!
