Beswicks Legal is delighted to have helped the Global Institute of Sport (GIS) launch its first overseas university campus in Miami.
Beswicks’ senior partner Gary Mellor managed the negotiations between GIS and Major League Soccer’s Inter Miami CF.
As a result of the partnership, from June 2021 students will be able to study MSc Sports Directorship at Inter Miami CF, a club whose ownership group is co-owned by David Beckham.
GIS is the masters arm of the University Campus of Football Business (UCFB), which has 2,500 students who learn from UK campuses including Wembley Stadium and the Etihad Stadium.
Gary said: “UCFB is an enormously successful institution which delivers degree and masters courses in all elements of the football business. They have been Beswicks’ clients for many years, so I was delighted to be able to introduce the university to the team at Miami and manage the legal aspects of their new partnership.
“It was clear to me from the outset that the vision and ambition shared by both organisations made them perfect partners and I’m excited to see the first students arrive on campus next year.”
Gary has previously negotiated agreements enabling GIS to open learning facilities around the world including at the Red Bull Arena in New York, Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium and Toronto FC’s BMO Field, paving the way for the university’s first-ever North American campus in Miami.
GIS chairman Brendan Flood, who is also a director at Burnley FC, described the announcement about the new university campus in Miami as a landmark moment for GIS and education in North America.
